DILGO KHYENTSE YANGSI RINPOCHE
in Zagreb, July 31. – August 1. 2010
Celebrate the centenary of the birth of his great predecessor Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche
This year those interested in Tibetan Buddhism will have a unique opportunity to meet one of the world’s most important young teachers, Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche, the incarnation of the celebrated 20th century teacher, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche was revered as a Tantric master and was respected and appreciated by all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
All those who had the opportunity to study with Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche share a profound sense of appreciation and awe. In words of some of his closest students, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche never lost his temper; even in the most stressful situations he never got angry or resentful towards people he came in contact with. To meet Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche was like the experience an only child returning home, where the parents receive him or her with great joy and happiness. He was an embodiment of a Bodhisattva who had completely awakened bodhicitta – the union of wisdom and love equally directed to all sentient beings.
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche was a deeply learned scholar who was intimately familiar with every detail of every single teaching of all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Without making a difference among them, he expressed equal attention and care towards all teachings.
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche was a terton* (a revealer of spiritual treasures (terma) hidden by Guru Rinpoche and Yeshe Tsogyal for the benefit of future generations), as well as an author of numerous commentaries on the teaching discovered by other tertons. Rinpoche was one of the main representatives of the Rime (non-sectarian) movement of Tibet and he encouraged his students to persevere in this non-sectarian tradition.
To be in the presence of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche was to meet someone who has followed the path to the very end; someone who blazed a trail for all those who wish to follow in his footsteps. Among the numerous teachers who count themselves as Rinpoche’s students it is especially important to note His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who often mentions Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche as the perfect embodiment of a Tibetan spiritual master.
Thanks to the exceptional kindness of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche’s spiritual heir, Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, the Shechen Buddhist Society of Croatia enjoys the unique opportunity to host the young incarnation of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche this summer. After many years of intensive education in the remote Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan, Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche will this year assume the role of a teacher and continue the activity of his predecessor. Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche will visit less than a handful of centers in Europe (two in France, one in Portugal), making this a rare privilege for Croatia – an opportunity to host a young Tibetan teacher who is expected to become one of the main representatives of Tibetan Buddhism in the 21st century. Accompanying Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche will be Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche and Matthieu Ricard. Mr. Ricard is the famous French scientist and a Tibetan Buddhist monk who in the last few years became well known throughout the world due to his efforts in establishing a continuing dialogue between science and spirituality.
During this two day visit with Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche the program participants will be able to, for the first time, directly receive empowerments and teachings from the vast spiritual treasury of his predecessor. As it is said in the Tibetan tradition, those present will be able to establish a special connection which opens the door to the possibility of accomplishing genuine liberation from ignorance, negative emotions and suffering.
During the visit there will be a showing of the new documentary “ Brilliant Moon: Glimpses of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche” by Neten Choling Rinpoche about the previous Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Visitors will be able to view some his relics as well as hear stories about lesser known details of his life.
The newly published English translation of the “Collected Works of Dilgo Khyenste Rinpoche” (Shambhala Publications) will be available for purchase during the visit.
The new translation of the sadhanas of Dilgo Khyenste Rinpoche’s termas will also be available as well as copies of the thangkas from the cycle of termas discovered by Dilgo Khyenste Rinpoche.
All additional information about the arrival of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche to Croatia will be available on the Shechen Buddhist Society of Croatia website. Due to large numbers of participants we kindly ask that you inform us of your arrival and interest at info@shechen.hr
